Roatán, Honduras

Why Honduras?

In July 2019, One Desk Foundation volunteers traveled to Flowers Bay, Roatán to support a community-led initiative to create safe spaces for children to play, learn, and grow.

The Project

This initiative was born when a group of brothers, Flowers Bay natives living in Southern California, returned home with their families and were struck by the conditions of their community — particularly the state of the only play space available to local children. Determined to make a lasting impact, their family launched a project to build facilities where the people of Flowers Bay could come together.

What We Built

Working alongside the Bennett-Brooks family and the local community, volunteers helped construct:

  • A soccer field
  • A playground
  • A community resource center

All three facilities are located in the heart of Flowers Bay, giving children a permanent, safe space to explore, learn, and connect.

Community

Beyond the build, the team had the opportunity to explore the island and celebrate with the community through a cookout and the 2nd annual basketball tournament.

This project would not have been possible without the generosity and support of everyone who contributed. One Desk Foundation is grateful to the Bennett-Brooks family for their vision and to all volunteers and donors who made it a reality.
